Islam warisan vs. Islam pilihan

Semalam saya membaca sebuah emel catatan seorang adik undergrad di Newcastle ni. Kami di Newcastle ni ada mailing list seperti Yahoo Group atau Google group tu. Membaca emel tu membuat saya berfikir sejenak, what will I do if I was in his shoes? Emelnya berkisar tentang perbualan dia dengan seorang rakan Christiannya yang mempersoalkan beberapa perkara tentang Islam seperti:-

• mengapa Islam mengenakan hukuman bunuh ke atas orang yang murtad& homosexual
  
• mengapa Islam mengenakan hukuman rejam ke atas orang berzina
• mengapa Islam meminta 4 org saksi utk sesuatu perbuatan jenayah. Contoh yang diberi oleh rakan Christian adik undergrad tersebut ialah tentang kesukaran mangsa rogol untuk mengemukakan 4 saksi.

Semalam aku berborak dengan sorang kawan, Andrew. A christian greek, a devoted christian. Well, good for him, sebab dia practise agama dia. He seems to know a lot pasal puasa, sebab dia cakap, in Christianity, they have to fast too. 6 weeks in Easter, and 4 weeks in Christmas. Aku cakap dalam hati "hey, this is cool. New knowledge, and seems like Christianity and Islam are not so difference after all". And I smiled :)Lepastu, kitorang cakap pasal a lot of things, casual things. From entertainment, to education. From politics, to humanitarian issues. Then dia tanya,

A: How was mosque? Did you get free
food?

H: Hehe, yes i did. The food are good. And free too.

A: You practice Islam a lot?

Aku diam... Diam sebab tak tahu nak cakap, diam sebab once someone is
talking about islam, I know that i have to be very careful with my answers. So
that i can give satisfactory explanation, so that I do not offend and insult the
other party's belief. Then aku jawab...

H: I do practise Islam, but I'm not really that religious. I mean, sometimes I miss my prayers too.That was my exact answer. And it was an honest one too. Then, he dropped the bomb.
A: But Islam says to kill people. The gays, the non-believers, and the apostates (orang murtad).

Aku terkejut giler. I know what he's talking about, but i tried to
remain compose. So that i can counter argue him.

H: Hurm, well, thats for those that's too extreme about it. All that I know is, homosexuality is forbidden. Same with how homosexuality is viewed in Christianity right?

H: Also, in Islam, it is not easy to sentence a person for a capital punishment. One will be adviced to forgo one's sinful act for 4 times, and if that doesn't work. He will undergo a trial in a shariaa court. But the prosecutor needs to produce 4
credible witnesses in order to summon that person to undergo the trial. And if here is, even one small uncertainty about whether or not that person has committed the crime, the court will have to acquit him from all the charges.

H: You see Andrew, Islam outlines a lot of strict criteria that need to be followed before giving a person a death sentence. And if this is not followed, the one giving the sentence will become the sinner, whilst the one being victimized is promised a place in heaven by Allah.He then countered my argument with these...
A: Jesus never said kill gay, Jesus said love your enemy.A: Saudi Arabia, they kill. Iran, they kill. Hadeeth, it says kill.

Saya membaca dan terus membaca emel tersebut hingga ayat yang terakhir. Membaca tentang jawapan-jawapan yang diberi oleh adik tersebut dengan sabar & penuh berhemah dengan perasaan yang berbaur antara malu dan geram. Malu dengan diri sendiri yang punya pengetahuan agama tidak secukupnya untuk menjawab persoalan-persoalan itu sekiranya ia dikemukan kepada saya. Geram dengan persoalan-persoalan orang-orang kafir yang sangat bias. Tapi saya tidak sepatutnya berasa geram kerana mereka adalah orang yang tidak tahu.

"Kalian tidak boleh pergi ke luar negara dengan membawa Islam warisan. Kalian mesti berIslam dengan Islam pilihan"
